Dive a Bunch of Wrecks !!!
Price: $55.00/per person
Southeast Florida has the largest artificial reef and wreck program in the country.
Let's have fun and dive some !!!
The decks of each of these wrecks is about 60' and to the sand it's about 70'.
We're going to visit the Ancient Mariner, Berry Patch and Qualmann Barge on one dive:
Description: The "Wreck Trek" Deerfield is a 3 wreck drift dive that includes the Ancient Mariner, Berry Patch Tug and Quallman Barge. You can easily cover 2 wrecks and if the current is right you can do all three. This area is a great dive, along with all the marine life you get to test your navigational skills. There are rebar stakes sticking up in the sand in between the wrecks to help guide you along.
Navigation: Depending on the current you either start out on the Ancient Mariner or the Quallman Barge. Circumnavigate each wreck, then take a heading and follow the stakes to each wreck. If you leave from the Quallman Brage follow the stakes (240 degrees) to the reef edge. Then follow the reef edge until you either see a stake or the Berry Patch Tug on your left. The distance between the Ancient Mariner and the Berry Patch Tug is approximately 150' and the Tug to the Barge is approximately 600'. Be careful not to get your flag tangled on the wreck. Sometimes it easier if you are going to stay on the wreck for awhile to tie it off and then retrieve it when you're ready to move on.
On the other dive we will hit the Sea Emperor and United Caribbean:
Description: The Sea Emperor was a hopper barge 171' long and 45' wide. The barge is upside down with the bow pointing to the south. Inside the wreck and to the east lie 1600 tons of concrete drainage culverts. The barge is also home to Goliath Groupers, eels, stingrays, nurse sharks and hundreds of other fish. This is a photographer's paradise! Penetration in this wreck is safe. There is light and access to surface in every chamber. This dive site has been featured in numerous magazines and T.V. shows worldwide. The Sea Emperor is part of a 3 wreck triangle.
The United Caribbean lies to the SE and can be reached by following the limestone bolders placed in a row (yellow brick road). The Noulla Express lies to the East, however it is a little trickier to reach in a single dive.
History: The Sea Emperor was formerly a hopper barge that was donated as part of a fine levied on a dredging company that destroyed some reef habitat off Palm Beach County. She was filled with large concrete culverts and then sunk of Boca Raton. When the barge sank it flipped, scattering the culverts and landing upside down creating a fantastic playground for fish and divers alike.

Description: The United Caribbean is a steel cargo ship 147' long. The bow points to the SE. Off the stern limerock boulders were placed in a line leading divers to and from the wreck of the Sea Emperor 250' to the NW. The Caribbean is one of the wrecks in the wreck triangle, including the Sea Emperor and the Noulla Express. Because of the close proximity to two other wrecks and a reef, it populated very quickly. Many of the same marine residents that occupy the Emperor can be seen on the Caribbean. The wreck moved slightly and sustained some damage during hurricane Wilma. History: The ship was built in 1969 and named the Golden Venture. It was registered Panamanian to operate only in waters around Singapore. But by the early 1990's, it was being used by smugglers to illegally ferry people and drugs. On June 6, 1993 the Golden Venture ran aground on Rockaway Beach in Queens New York. The ship was smuggling 286 illegal immigrants from China. In their attempts to flee the stranded ship and get to shore in the United States, ten people drowned. The ship was later sold and renamed the United Caribbean and was used a s a cargo vessel in the Caribbean. The ship eventually became part of the Palm Beach Artificial Reef Program and was sunk on August 22, 2000. There are several movies chronicling the horrifying journey of the 286 immigrants.
